September Overview

So what a month it's been. Well couple actually, hence the absence on here, apologies! But fear not, here is my monthly round-up...

First of all I bagged the most amazing internship at LaDiDa mag, a North East based magazine that is just bursting with all things fabulous! I just squeezed right into the hustle and bustle of journo life and I couldn't have loved it more! From photographing The Jacksons, to interviewing local fashion designers, to attending all the fab events, I was definitely more than just the coffee girl. Oh yea i did just say The Jacksons!

Aside from spilling the beans on the amazing adventure I had working for LaDiDa, most of all it taught me to believe in myself and my abilities and I couldn't be more grateful. Hearing the words "you'll make a great journalist" really hit home that hopefully thats what I will be soon, and to be honest I CAN'T WAIT!

But now the fun is over and it's back to uni, where the hard work is really going to start, but I'm really looking forward to what my third and final year is going to bring...perhaps a few tears but hey, that's only what I would expect.

So I'll end on a high note...my picture with The Jacksons!

Quilt Update

So as promised, this is an update post on my granny square quilt I began making earlier this year. I haven't done as much as I would have liked to have done by now but hey, it's coming along.

If you didn't read my first post on this project then here's where I left it. This is my first go at quilting. A skill I've wanted to pick up for years now but never felt I had the patience, but this year I thought it was my year to give it a go.

At the beginning of the summer I had completed four blocks (basically the technical quilting word for sections). With uni deadlines and overtime at work it was pushed to the back of my to do list. But during the holidays when I had a moment to myself out came the sewing machine and my beautiful fabric collection. And so the sewing began!

And here's where I'm at now. All the dark pink blocks are complete now just the pale pink and blue ones to go. Originally my aim was to have it finished by the end of summer but as winter is upon us I think my new aim is by Christmas, think I'll manage it? I hope so.

Latest Fabric Haul

Hey, I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. I've spent mine working but oh well, got to earn some pennies!

For those of you who know me you will be well aware of my passion for buying new fabrics, even if no project is in sight at the time. I live by the the motto, "you never know when you might need it."

Working in a haberdashery store has its advantage, access to a number of beautiful fabrics, and at a discount price - score! But I do go all over looking for gorgeous fabric that will make my projects just that little bit nicer, and to be honest I think it's well worth it.

Anyway, I thought I'd share with you my recent fabric purchases, hope you like them!

"Princess"
I love this princess fabric, purchased from the Boyes store I work at. It's a very fun and childish design that I just couldn't resist getting my hands on! I'm not all together sure what I will make with it yet, but hey, "you never know when I might need it!"

"Pink Fruit"

This fun pink fruit print was a steal at £3 a metre. Again, not sure what I will make yet, but I am thinking something cute for my friend's babies!

"Tape Measure Brights"

I couldn't resist buying this gorgeous tape measure print. It was available in two shades, the brights and then neutrals. Well of course it had to be the brights. I intend on using this to make things for my sewing room, like a new sewing machine cover and pin cushion. I can't wait!

"Pastel Stripes"

In the last month I have spent much of my time in IKEA sourcing exciting new things for my recent sewing room project. While doing so I came across this gorgeous pastel stripe fabric. Heavy weight and perfect for making scatter cushions for my bedroom!

"Sew Vintage"
And last but not least this gorgeous vintage style fabric was a hefty £12.99 a metre, but well worth it I must say! I was originally going to make a pair of curtains for my sewing room with this fabric, but then I decided I wanted to make the most out of this beautiful fabric. I found an old blanket box from my childhood (still covered in Disney stickers, and jungle fabric) and decided to "make do and mend" and paint and recover it, and this fabric was just perfect for it! Plus a matching lampshade! (I'll post pictures of my latest makes soon).

Sewing Room Heaven

Since breaking up from uni I've hardly had a spare minute to get creative (sad face). But I have been busy thinking of changing the spare bedroom into a beautiful sewing room that I could escape to and just relax doing what I do best. So with a little help from good old dad (well maybe a lot of help) we made it happen.

Check out my new favourite space!

How amazing is my button rug?! An essential addition
to the room.

Please excuse Corrie on the tele!

Really useful storage space from IKEA.

I love having my ribbons out on display.

Motivation.

I hope you love my room just as much as I do!

Mirror Mosaic Blouse

So my first year of uni is nearly over - so scary! But one of the final things I need to complete is a Fashion Feature.

We can create a fashion feature on a topic of our own choice so I decided upon a D.I.Y fashion piece. I have absolutely loved the programme The great British Sewing Bee so I thought this would be a good starting point for my feature.

As an extra addition to my feature I created a sidebar which included my very own D.I.Y piece. I made a statement collar on a plain black chiffon blouse. So I thought I would share with you my creation. Hope you like!

Feel free to ask me any questions about it.
